SCHOOL DAZE

It came soooooo fast. School started Monday. No more kids at home! Mia starting kindergarten was much harder than I expected (for me, not for her). I made the mistake of reading The Kissing Hand to her Sunday night before bed. I couldn't even finish the book, Randy had to finish for me, as Mia is looking at me like "what is wrong with you mom?" Why is it so much harder to send her than it was to send Bridger?

Bridger is in 3rd grade, he was much more excited than I thought he would be. He seems so much older, and is much taller. I think he is starting to figure out how this school thing and rules work, he is so smart, but thinks things need to be on his terms. Good luck to Miss Hutchinson, jk, Bridger you are going to have a great year!

Jesse is in 5th grade and is the big (really, really big) cheese at Aspen Elementary. I would have to classify Jesse as the model student, mostly because he wants to be. Honestly, being a mom to that kind of a child is almost as hard as being mom to the Bridger type. Jesse was up at 5 a.m. Monday morning, it was worse than Christmas morning for him. He got everyone else up, not necessarily on purpose, but he did, so until 8:30 the 3 younger ones were bouncing around the house, while the rest of us were trying not to pull our hair out, we were actually glad to see the bus come. I must say though, that I knew I wouldn't need to worry about Mia, because of Jesse, he is a great big brother. The first few days of school have already been a little hard with Jess worrying that everything is signed, everything is in order, all reading minutes have been read. "PLEASE RELAX JESSE" has been uttered more than once the last few days.

Mackenzee is a freshman, WIERD, she is my social butterfly. Loving it, is probably an understatement. She has been a little sassy though. "oh please don't let that be a sign of worse things to come." She just needs to be reminded now and then how it seems to be and she tries to keep it in check. The best thing about school starting for her is that VOLLEYBALL STARTS TOO, YAHOO. I do love to watch her play.

Finally Will, 10th grade, he is glad to not be a freshman, but was not to glad about school starting. He is a great, great student, but I think he stresses about it too much, over achiever? maybe. Again the best part of school starting is Football for him. He started with football 2 weeks ago with 2 a days, but now we get to start watching some games.

It has been quiet during the days, I'm getting a lot done, and at least I have Randy around a little. It was so nice to have him here the first day, and Sunday night he gave all the kids a blessing, (a little tradition we started with Will going to Kindergarten), and was able to finish the book to Mia, he loves being with his kids as much as he can. Baby will be here soon too, so I guess I'll embrace these few weeks of alone time.

The weekend before school started we were TREATED with a visit from the Johnson's. It was so fun to spend some time with their awesome family and miss seeing them more, we really think they should move to Big Wonderful Wyoming (Evanston to be exact). Thank you guys for coming, Will was very happy to think you would care enough to come watch him, he kept saying he wished you could've stayed longer, and that Alec is so awesome, Jesse still calls Carter his best friend, and Savvy is Mia's best friend now, just so you know, and it was really necessary that Luke got to know us a little bit, that is really a problem I intend on fixing even more. And of course Randy was really in need of a Jeremy fix, what is the phrase on your wall Rob, "laughter is sunshine in the home"? Is that Aerosmith too? The Barker's really want to grow up to be like the Johnson's! We love you guys.

(p.s. This is where the cute pictures of our weekend with the Johnson's should be the 3 I took were lame and not blog worthy--Robyn could you please send me some of the pictures of the cooking show and whatever else, that a loser mom like me forgets to get, yet another reason I want to grow up to be like you.)

Look it is even on a diangle.

(I put this phrase up in the hall between my girls rooms, and Randy pointed out to me and the Johnson's that it is an Aerosmith quote, and then convinced me to put the song on our blog.)

Oh Janet, you silly goose. Just the other day we were talking about how awesome YOU are and what great parents you and Randy are and what a good happy-medium you are - SO, just know that there are those of us out there that want to be like YOU too!
What a sweet post, the book looks cute you read to Mia, I'll have to check it out.
Good luck w/Miranda's arrival soon!!!! She will be beautiful inside and out like the rest of your family.

I couldn't stop laughing when I read (and listened) to this! Then when Jer came home and looked (and listened) he was just so happy! Especially with your picture on a diangle. We miss you already and yes I do have some great pictures of our short trip. Tell Will is was totally worth it to come see him play. And to see how much our kids LOVE each other!
We feel more like it was a Barker Tease instead of a Barker Fix - we just needed another night!
However one more night would have done Randy in. We still laugh at his driving while sleeping, only to BARELY make it to his bed to crash with his feet dangling off the bed. Then him yelling at Jesse for his ping-pong practice! (and Jesse ignoring him) Good old Randall!
Seriously Janet, thank you for making us feel like family and for being the best hostess on the planet. We love, love, love you!

Isn't it funny how each kids is so different raised by the same parents and in the same house. It's cute to see their personalities all peek through on your blog. You are getting old kids. You will be busy soon so get everything done you possibly can. JK. You better bring the baby to dinner one time at least. We love babies at dinner. Good luck until then.
